Xbox Series X can become not only more productive than the PlayStation 5, but also much more expensive

Less than a year remains before the release of the new generation of game consoles Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. New items will debut in the pre-holiday season of 2020, but now the consulting company The Motley Fool and the German TV Movie magazine have decided to speculate how much each of the new products will cost, because the prices are still that they were not announced. And in short: the new Xbox will be more expensive than the new PlayStation.

Xbox Series X can become not only more productive than the PlayStation 5, but also much more expensive

The German magazine suggests that Sony will stick to tradition and release the PlayStation 5 at a price of 400 euros in Europe and 400 dollars in the US. The predecessors of the future novelty cost the same at the start of sales. It's also worth noting here that the $400 price point made the PlayStation 4 stand out from the $500 Xbox One when they both came out in November 2013. Perhaps Sony has decided to continue with this successful strategy.

It's also worth mentioning that Albert Panello, who until last year worked in the marketing department of Microsoft's Xbox division, suggests that the PlayStation 5's performance will be only around 8-9,2 teraflops. That is twice as much compared to PS4 Pro with a tolerance of about 10%. In turn, the performance of the Xbox Series X is declared at 12 Tflops, but it will not be the first time for Sony to release a console with a significant lag in peak performance: the PS4 Pro lagged behind the Xbox One X even more.

Xbox Series X can become not only more productive than the PlayStation 5, but also much more expensive

Against this backdrop, Motley Fool analysts expect the Xbox Series X to be extremely expensive. First of all, the 500 euros (dollars) that were asked for Xbox One at the start of sales will only be the starting point for the price of new items. Speculation is being made about a price tag of $700 at the start of sales, or even higher. Of course, a higher cost is unlikely to provide better sales, and probably even vice versa. But Microsoft could try to make up for that with significantly better performance, as well as selling the Xbox Series X for less, but with a mandatory Xbox Game Pass subscription.

Xbox Series X can become not only more productive than the PlayStation 5, but also much more expensive

These are the assumptions made by analysts. We think that the price difference of 75% is too big, and for the future Xbox Series X, it can be just deadly. For the same $700, many will prefer to build or buy a desktop computer, and even the $5 PlayStation 400 will be, against this background, simply the best choice for many ordinary consumers. Therefore, even if the cost of the Xbox Series X is very high, Microsoft is unlikely to dare to put the price above $500, in our opinion. But how everything will be in reality, we will know only next November.
