Tech-demo short film: the possibilities of the new system of physics and destruction of the Unreal engine

Game developers have been striving for years to create a realistic system for calculating physics and destruction. At one time, Havoc and PhysX technologies made a lot of noise, but there is always room for improvement and something to strive for. Epic Games showcased its latest achievements in this field during the GDC 2019 Game Developers Conference.

At the presentation of State of Unreal, the company showed the public a very impressive short film, which at the same time acts as a technological demonstration of the new high-performance physics and destruction rendering system Chaos. A preview of the latter will appear in the Unreal Engine 4.23 build.

The demo focuses on the world of Robo Recall, in which the leader of the robotic resistance, k-OS, sneaked into a military laboratory and stole secret equipment. A powerful military robot is sent in pursuit of her - the latter is clumsy, but compensates for its clumsiness with solid weapons. Of course, the city will not be healthy from such a combination.
