Interaction between FSF and GNU

The Free Software Foundation (FSF) has published a message on its website clarifying the relationship between the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and the GNU Project in light of recent events.

The Free Software Foundation (FSF) and the GNU Project were founded by Richard M. Stallman (RMS), who until recently held the position of head of both organizations. For this reason, the relationship between FSF and GNU has been smooth.
As part of our efforts to support the development and distribution of fully free operating systems, FSF provides GNU with assistance such as financial sponsorship, technical infrastructure, advocacy, copyright transfer, and volunteer support.
Decision-making within GNU has largely rested with the GNU leadership. Since RMS stepped down as president of FSF but remains head of GNU, FSF is currently working with the GNU leadership to build relationships and plans for the future.
