When I first started getting acquainted with Habr, my senior comrades strictly bequeathed me to watch for double spaces and errors in texts. At the beginning, I did not attach much importance to this, but after a bunch of minuses in karma, my attitude to this requirement suddenly changed. And just recently, my good St. Petersburg friend, not that geek
Many years ago, working as an editor and catching endless extra spaces and other design flaws, I asked my husband to somehow save me from the routine. And he made a simple but terribly useful thing - an editor macro. You press the given key combination, and the problem is solved automatically.
Worrying about double spaces is still perfectionism, 99% of the population does not suffer from it. But if you work with the text (not only as a PR specialist, journalist or editor, but also, let's say, as a salesperson writing a CP), then take care of its perfect design. This will give you an intelligent person.
This is what the text looks like before processing: double spaces, a hyphen instead of a dash, an em dash, confusion with quotation marks.
Such texts often get to the editor, their cleaning can take a very long time. Two presses of the key combination Ctrl + "Ρ" (this is the combination I have installed) - and the text is neatly formatted.
How it works? With the help of a simple macro for Word, which can be easily installed even by a person who hardly understands the word "macro". Need to
What a macro can do:
- change double spaces to single spaces;
- replace a hyphen with an en dash and an em dash with an en dash;
- replace "yo" with "e";
- replace quotation marks - "paws" with quotation marks - "Christmas trees";
- remove non-breaking spaces;
- remove the space before the comma, period, closing bracket.
The full list of commands can be seen in the text of the macro. The commands are related to the standards of my previous work, they can be separately removed if you like the letter βyoβ or em dash, and you can also add your own.
Enjoy! And let your texts look perfect!
