After three and a half years of development, Shotwell 0.33.0, the new stable branch of the photo collection management program, has been released. It offers cataloging and collection navigation capabilities, supports grouping by time and tags, provides tools for importing and converting new photos, supports common image processing operations (rotation, red-eye removal, exposure adjustment, color optimization, etc.), and includes tools for publishing to social networks such as Google Photos, Flickr, and MediaGoblin. The program is written in Vala, uses GNOME libraries, and is distributed under the LGPLv2.1 license.
In the new release:
- The transition to the GTK4 library has been completed. GTK 4.22 is now the minimum supported version.
- Interface-blocking single-button dialogs have been replaced with pop-up notifications.
- Added support for opening URLs directly from the viewer.
- Many functions have been moved to an asynchronous execution mechanism.
- The printing interface has been redesigned.
- The separate authentication app has been replaced with a simple one. web server, accepting requests via localhost.
