LLVM project moves from mailing lists to Discourse platform

The LLVM project announced the transition from the mailing list system to the llvm.discourse.group site based on the Discourse platform for developers to communicate and publish announcements. Until January 20, all archives of past discussions will be transferred to a new site. Mailing lists will be moved to read-only mode on February 1st. The transition will make communication easier and more familiar for beginners, structure discussions in llvm-dev, organize full-fledged moderation and spam filtering. Participants who do not want to use the web interface and mobile application will be able to use the gateway provided in Discourse to communicate by email.

The Discourse platform provides a system of in-line discussions offered as a replacement for mailing lists, web forums, and chat rooms. It supports the division of topics based on tags, sending notifications about the appearance of replies to messages, updating the list of messages in topics in real time, dynamic loading of content as you read, the ability to subscribe to topics of interest and send replies by email. The system is written in Ruby using the Ruby on Rails framework and the Ember.js library (data is stored in the PostgreSQL DBMS, the fast cache is stored in Redis). The code is distributed under the GPLv2 license.
