AMD expects price competition to be fierce this year

AMD is always ready for active competition - both in the processor segment and in the graphics one. But it still does not consider the shortage of products of one of its competitors as a factor that can seriously strengthen its own positions. AMD considers the consumer properties of its products to be the main component of success.

AMD expects price competition to be fierce this year

When Intel CEO Robert Swan was asked at the quarterly reporting conference to explain why the company expects the average selling price of processors to drop in the second half of this year, he gave two main reasons. Firstly, the shortage of processors in the second half of the year will be weakened, the company will be able to produce more inexpensive models, which, due to the saturation of the market with themselves, will reduce the average selling price. Secondly, and the head of Intel chose not to talk about this factor too much, the competitive situation will begin to worsen towards the end of the year. In these words, there was a hint of a possible price cut - at least, such measures have already been taken by Intel regarding a limited range of Xeon processors.

Head of AMD Lisa Su (Lisa Su) at the quarterly reporting conference, too askedhow it assesses the likelihood of noticeable shifts in competitive positions due to the actions of other market participants. The AMD CEO calmly responded that the company's strategy is always based on the assumption of a competitive pricing environment. The company assumes that competition will be fierce in both the CPU and video card segments.

The head of AMD was not embarrassed by the question of the possible impact of a shortage of competitor processors on its market positions. Lisa Su replied that even before the fourth quarter, the company had been continuously increasing its market share for two years, and probably did so in the fourth quarter, just there are no ready-made statistics yet. Regardless of whether the competitor has problems with the production of processors, AMD is convinced of the strength of its position and the attractiveness of its product portfolio.

From the previous forecast to achieve a double-digit share in the server processor market by the middle of the year, AMD does not refuse, but in general is not ready to give specific forecasts for the dynamics for the year. Only in general terms is it indicated that AMD believes in its ability to increase market share in the server, gaming and computer segments. In the near future, special hopes are associated with the strengthening of positions in the notebook segment.
