Rhys Elliott, head of market intelligence at Alinea Analytics, believes that Starfield's performance on PS5 casts a shadow over Microsoft's strategy of delaying the release of its games on competitors' consoles.

Furthermore, Starfield's inclusion in Game Pass ate into its sales. More than 8 million people tried the game through the subscription, while sales on Xbox only amounted to 1 million copies. Another 3,7 million units were allegedly purchased by Steam users.

"Our data indicate that Crimson Desert <…> will overtake Starfield in sales by the end of the year. Ironically, if Starfield had launched on PS5 straight away and bypassed Game Pass on Xbox and PC, things would have been different," Elliott added.

Starfield debuted in September 2023 on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X, S, and Game Pass, and on April 7th it arrived on PS5. The game was released on Sony's console in poor technical condition, but Bethesda has already promised fix everything.
