PowerShell is an extensible and open source automation tool from Microsoft.
Microsoft announced the next version of PowerShell Core this week.
Despite all expectations, the next version will be PowerShell 7, not PowerShell Core 6.3. This signals a significant change in development for the project as Microsoft is taking another major step to replace Windows' built-in PowerShell 5.1 with cross-platform PowerShell Core.
According to Microsoft, the release will become available around May 2019. And will be released shortly after the release of .NET Core 3.0.
