Apple is increasingly focusing on health. Recently one of the largest studies related to arrhythmia. Now, the Cupertino company has announced that US residents can sign up for three important health studies covering women's health, heart and movement, and hearing.

These multi-year studies will be conducted in partnership with leading academic and research institutions and are available on the new Research app, available for download now. The company notes that participants will be able to contribute to potentially revolutionary medical discoveries by collecting medical data with their iPhone and Apple Watch—all of which will help create a new generation of innovative health products.

“Today marks an important moment as we embark on research initiatives that will help unlock vast knowledge in areas long sought after by the medical community,” said Apple COO Jeff Williams. “Research app members have the opportunity to provide tremendous help that can lead to new discoveries and help millions of people live healthier lives.”

After registration, participants using Apple Watch and iPhone, can provide useful data on movement, heart rate, and noise levels recorded during everyday activities, from walking to attending a concert. The Research app complements Apple's suite of products and services that enable medical research on a scale never before attempted, including iPhone, Apple Watch, ResearchKit and HealthKit.
The Apple Women's Health Study aims to advance understanding of menstrual cycles and their relationship to a variety of women's health conditions on a scale never seen before. The Apple Heart and Movement Study will broadly examine the factors that affect heart health and people's mobility scores. The Apple Hearing Study will collect information to find out how exposure to sounds over time can affect hearing.

Of course, Apple promises to adhere to the principle of confidentiality. The Research app has been made so that the user can only share data with selected studies after approval. It also includes a clear registration process with detailed consent that explains how the data will be used and allows control over the type of data provided for each study.
