Apple splits iTunes into separate apps

Currently, macOS operating systems use a single iTunes media center, which also knows how to synchronize data with the user's mobile devices. However, according to the resource 9to5Mac, citing a source close to the development of new applications at Apple, this will soon change. In future updates to the desktop OS, the program is expected to be divided into separate applications: for movies, music, podcasts and television broadcasts.

It is expected that this update will appear already in build 10.15, and the Music, Podcasts and TV applications themselves will be created using Marzipan technology. This will allow iPad applications to be ported to macOS without major rework. Images of new icons for them have also been published.

In addition, the Books app will receive a design update. In particular, they talk about the appearance of a sidebar similar to the news application. However, there has been no official confirmation of this so far.

Curiously, the classic iTunes is likely to remain on macOS. So far, the Cupertino-based company has no other tools to manually sync data from the desktop to older iPhones and iPods. The reasons for the split have not yet been announced.

Recall that in the coming years the company plans to create portable applications for MacBook, iPad and iPhone. This means that the programs will become universal and will work the same on all devices, and also indicates that Cupertino wants to get rid of dependence on Intel. For this, a gradual transition to proprietary chips based on the ARM architecture in laptops and desktops is expected.
