Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" Beta Available: Nimble Cinnamon and Duplicate App Detection

Linux Mint Developers released build 19.2 beta, codenamed "Tina". The novelty is available with Xfce, MATE and Cinnamon graphical shells. It is noted that the new beta is still based on the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS package set, which means system support until 2023.

Version 19.2 introduced an improved update manager that now shows supported kernel options and makes it easier to update a critical system element. In addition, all graphical shells have been updated. The main Cinnamon desktop received version 4.2 and an optimization of the Muffin window manager, significantly less RAM usage and other improvements. MATE and Xfce have also been updated to the latest versions.

In addition to desktop optimization, Cinnamon now has the ability to detect duplicate applications. If two programs have the same name, then the menu will show additional information about them, as well as the exact identification of the applications. The same is true for Flatpak application packages.

Finally, the ability to set the width of the scrollbar in pixels has been added. A trifle, but nice. The stable release of Linux Mint 19.2 "Tina" is expected to be released later this month. Beta version is possible download now.

At the same time, it should be noted that although Linux Mint is a child distribution of Ubuntu, however, in a number of scenarios, it is the β€œdaughter” that works better than the original distribution. True, it is better not to install the beta version, but to wait for the release.
