Britain will receive a 200-Pflops AI supercomputer Isambard-AI on hybrid Arm chips NVIDIA GH200

The UK government has announced the allocation of Β£225 million ($273 million) for the construction of the country's most powerful supercomputer, Isambard, with a performance of more than 200 PFLOPS in FP64 calculations and more than 21 EFLOPS in AI tasks. According to The Register, the new machine, based on thousands of NVIDIA Grace Hopper hybrid Arm superchips (GH200), will be located at the University of Bristol and will be built by HPE. The machine is expected to be operational next year and will help with tasks ranging from automated drug development to climate change analysis, from the study and implementation of neural networks in robotics to tasks related to national security and big data processing. Isambard-AI will be among the ten fastest supercomputers in the world. The UK's fastest supercomputer so far is the 20 Pflops Archer2 system, ranked 30th in the TOP500 and launched just a couple of years ago.
