The size of the Internet audience in Russia is approaching 100 million

The GfK company, according to RBC, summed up the results of a study of the Russian Internet market last year: the number of web audiences in our country continues to grow.

It is reported that at the end of 2019, the number of Internet users among Russians over 16 years of age reached 94,4 million. This is approximately 3,7% more than in 2018, when the size of the web audience in our country was 91,0 million people .

It is noted that eight out of ten adult Russians now use the Internet - 79,8%. At the same time, more than 24 million people (20,2% of the population over 16 years old) do not go online at all.

The study showed that last year the Internet audience in our country grew primarily due to people of retirement age. Thus, in the age group 65+, the number of Internet users increased from 26% to 36%. In addition, an increase was recorded in the 50–64 year old group – from 63% to 66%.

It is also interesting that among people aged 16 to 19 years old, Internet access penetration has reached almost 100%. This means that the opportunities for further growth in this group have been exhausted.

In the 20-29 year old category, internet penetration is around 97%. Among Russians aged 30–39 years old, the Network’s audience grew over the year from 92% to 94%, in the category 40–49 years old - from 85% to 89%.
