CI Games terminated the contract with the developers of Lords of the Fallen 2 - the game may not be released soon

Sequel Lords of the traps was announced more than four years ago, but the players still have not been shown a single screenshot. Apparently, the situation of the project is close to the "industrial hell". First CI Games reduced development team, then Transmitted role-playing action of another studio - Defiant, and recently unexpectedly broke off the contract with her. Apparently, waiting for the premiere this year is not worth it.

An agreement with Defiant Studios was signed last year. This small New York studio was founded by people from the Swedish Avalanche Studios, who created Just Cause and Mad Max. According to the head of CI Games, Marek TymiΕ„ski, she presented the Poles with a very convincing concept and showed great interest in participating in the development. The experience of Defiant employees played an important role in the decision to cooperate: they had a hand in Just Cause 3, Just Cause 4, LA Noire, Warframe and other famous games.

From that moment (from about the middle of 2018), the sequel began to be remade from scratch on Unreal Engine 4. In an August interview Eurogamer The head of Defiant David Grijns (David Grijns) said that the studio is working on its own project in parallel. Lords of the Fallen 2 appealed to them because of the complexity of the task at hand: they saw the sequel as a chance to challenge the Souls series. Greenes was also inspired by the fact that his modest team could make a big quality game. The team hoped to "surprise" the fans of the first part and was confident in their abilities.

CI Games press release explainedthat the Defiant failed in its duties. In particular, the studio failed to create a good "vertical cut" - the most elaborate, "polished" version that is used to showcase key features. "The quality of the work performed was below expectations and did not meet the criteria detailed in the agreement, despite three requests to improve [the game] at this stage of development," the company explained.

Defiant vehemently disagrees with CI Games' claims, as Griins stated in an interview with Eurogamer. β€œThe team that worked on the project consisted of very talented developers that we can vouch for,” he said. β€” Our team knows how to make high-quality games. Our employees have been at the forefront of the production of Just Cause 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 5, Devil May Cry (DmC) and other high quality projects. The manager did not elaborate on the reasons for the conflict, citing contractual obligations regarding confidentiality.

Be that as it may, the production of Lords of the Fallen 2 continues. CI Games decided to continue the work on their own. However, it is noted that some third-party studios (or freelancers) are involved in the project. The task will obviously not be easy: this year the company plans to release tactical shooter Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.

The development of the original Lords of the Fallen was assisted by the German Deck13 Interactive, which later created The Surge. Now she is working over the sequel to this action role-playing game, which should appear in 2019.
