While the new launch date is much closer to the planned release on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 market, CD Projekt RED has no current plans to release a version of Cyberpunk 2077 for next-gen consoles.
“Cyberpunk is currently preparing for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. “Nothing has changed in connection with the new plans,” said CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nielubowicz in response to questions during a teleconference dedicated to the new date for the project to enter the market.
“We still have the same plans as before,” confirmed CD Projekt RED executive director Adam Kiciński. — Cyberpunk 2077 has always been developed for PS4 and Xbox One. We're thinking about the next generation, but right now we're focused on current gaming systems. This plan is still in effect."
In the previous financial report, released in March last year, Mr. Kiciński said: “If we had the opportunity to launch Cyberpunk 2077 on another generation of systems, we would probably try to do it.” Thus, there is still a fairly high probability that improved versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will be created for Xbox Series X and PS5 in the future, even if the developers are now completely focused on Xbox One and PS4.
CD Projekt RED isn't worried about releasing the game when newer, more powerful consoles are available, and during one of the busiest times of the year for major launches. “We believe that our game - a large single-player action role-playing game with a great story - will find its place in the market regardless of the release date,” said CD Projekt RED board member for business development Michał Nowakowski.
“There is always something going on, no matter what time you choose. The gaming industry is not the kind of activity where you can talk about the presence of any safer month for one reason or another. That is why, in this regard, we do not perceive September as more threatening than April or June,” Nelyubovich added.
While it's clear that the game's new scheduled release date could be pushed back, CD Projekt RED is confident that Cyberpunk 2077 will release in September. “Yes, we pretty much know and understand what aspects of the game still need to be polished,” said Michal Nowakowski.
