Beta version of Trident OS based on Void Linux available

Available the first beta version of Trident OS, transferred from FreeBSD and TrueOS to the Void Linux package base. Boot size iso image 515MB. The assembly uses ZFS on the root partition, it is possible to roll back the boot environment using ZFS snapshots, a simplified installer is supplied, it can work on systems with EFI and BIOS, encryption of the swap partition is possible, package options are offered for the standard libraries glibc and musl, for each user a separate ZFS dataset for the home directory (you can manipulate snapshots of the home directory without obtaining root rights), data encryption in user directories is provided.

Several installation levels are offered: Void (a basic set of Void packages plus packages for ZFS support), Server (working in console mode for servers), Lite Desktop (minimal desktop based on Lumina), Full Desktop (full desktop based on Lumina with additional office, communication and multimedia applications). Among the limitations of the beta release - the GUI for setting up the desktop is not ready, Trident-specific utilities have not been ported, and the installer does not have a manual partitioning mode.

Let us remind you that in October the Trident project объявил about migrating a project from FreeBSD and TrueOS to Linux. The reason for the migration was the inability to otherwise get rid of some of the problems that limit users of the distribution, such as compatibility with hardware, support for modern communication standards, and package availability. It is expected that after the transition to Void Linux, Trident will be able to expand support for graphics cards and provide users with more modern graphics drivers, as well as improve support for sound cards, audio streaming, add support for audio transmission via HDMI, improve support for wireless network adapters and devices with an interface Bluetooth, offer more recent versions of programs, speed up the boot process and implement support for hybrid installations on UEFI systems.
