elementary OS 5.1 Hera

elementary OS 5.1 Hera

A major update to elementary OS 5.1 is available, codenamed "Hera". This release is very important for the development of the project, and the list of changes is quite impressive, so the developers found it necessary to especially distinguish it from other releases by changing the name and branding. Despite this, the release is still based on the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS codebase.

Of the major changes, the following are the most important:

  • Updated login screen - it received both a new design and improved integration with the system.
  • New application Onboarding, which introduces the user to the system, allows for initial setup, and also presents the most important updates as they are released.
  • Flatpak support in the branded AppCenter, as well as a new application side load, which allows you to quickly and easily install flatpak applications from third-party sources (for example, you can now install Flathub applications with one click right from your browser!). The course towards using the Flatpak format is declared as a priority for eOS.
  • Significant (up to 10 times!) acceleration of the AppCenter branded application store.
  • Small but numerous improvements and fixes in the settings panel, branded applications and the main panel. Of particular note is the improved support for high resolution screens.
  • New boring wallpapers, improved icons and even more polished visual design.

For users already using elementary OS, it is enough to update the system through the AppCenter; for all others, installation images have been prepared on the project website.
