The European Court of General Jurisdiction began considering the case of Apple's record fine for non-payment of taxes.
The corporation believes that the EU commission made a mistake in the calculations, demanding such a large amount from it. Moreover, the EU Commission allegedly did it on purpose, in defiance of Irish tax law, US tax law, and the provisions of the global consensus on tax policy.

51-year-old Danish Margrethe Vestager was once called "Denmark's worst politician". However, in recent years she has managed to become perhaps the most famous European commissioner thanks to high-profile investigations against Amazon, Alphabet, Apple and Facebook, to which she imposed huge fines.
In August 2016, the European Commission accused Apple of illegally obtaining tax benefits in Ireland: because of this, the company allegedly underpaid more than 13 billion euros. Apple and the Irish tax authorities have since been trying to prove that the benefits were obtained under Irish and European law.
The European Commission insisted that until the final clarification of the circumstances, 14,3 billion euros (unpaid taxes plus interest) remained on deposit in Ireland. Whether the funds will return to Apple or move to the European Union will be decided by the court.
