Game Freak has confirmed that future games in the main Pokémon series will offer a limited Pokédex.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the number of available Pokémon will be significantly reduced due to the increased workload on Game Freak, as the studio had to rework the animals for modern graphics.
“At this time, we have no plans to make Pokémon that are not in the Galar Pokedex available in the game,” said Game Freak producer Junichi Masuda. "This is an approach we want to continue in future Pokémon games."
In previous games in the series, there were two versions of the Pokédex. The regional Pokédex covered the Pokémon of the area where the project's events unfold. The National Pokédex, on the other hand, contained every animal found even in other games. There is no national in Pokémon Sword and Shield. But you can trade Pokémon from other games using the recently announced Pokémon Home service. True, he is also limited to a set of pocket monsters in the Galar region.
“Until now, it was not possible to meet every Pokémon in every game, so people had to transfer them from old games to the new one, for example, using Pokémon Bank,” continued Masuda. - The Pokémon Home app is currently in development. In it, players will be able to collect their Pokémon, but only creatures from the Pokédex of the Galar region can be transferred to Sword and Shield. It's actually not very different from what happened with Pokémon Bank: up until now, you've only been able to meet Pokémon from a certain region. We encourage people to use Pokémon Home to collect their Pokémon from old games. From there, they could take them to other games in the future. So take care of your old Pokémon because you might be able to travel with them again."
Pokémon Sword and Pokemon Shield will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
