Gartner: personal computer sales will continue to decline

Gartner has published a forecast for the global market of computer devices and cellular devices for the coming years: analysts predict a drop in demand.

Traditional desktop and laptop computers, ultrabooks of various categories, as well as cellular devices such as regular phones and smartphones are taken into consideration.

It is reported that in 2018 the market size of computer devices was about 409,3 million pieces. In the segment of cellular devices, sales were at the level of 1,81 billion units.

This year, shipments in the category of computer devices are forecasted at 406,3 million units. Thus, the fall in relation to the previous year will be approximately 0,7%.

The segment of cellular devices will be reduced to 1,80 billion pieces. Here, the decline in demand will be quite insignificant.

In the coming years, Gartner experts expect a further decrease in the supply of computer devices. So, in 2020, the volume of this sector will be approximately 403,1 million units, and in 2021 - 398,6 million units.

As for mobile phones and smartphones, their total shipments will increase to 1,82 billion units next year, but will fall to 2021 billion in 1,80.
