Google told the first details about Fuchsia OS

Google has finally lifted the veil of secrecy over the Fuchsia OS project, a mysterious operating system that has been around for about three years, but has not yet appeared in the public domain. It first became known in August 2016 without an official announcement. The first data appeared on GitHub, at the same time there were theories that this is a universal OS that will replace Android and Chrome OS. This was confirmed by the source code, as well as the fact that the two developers managed to run Fuchsia in Android Studio emulator.

Google told the first details about Fuchsia OS

However, more was revealed during the Google I/O conference. Senior Vice President of Android and Chrome Hiroshi Lockheimer given a little explanation on this.

“We know that many people are worried that it will be the new Chrome OS or Android, but Fuchsia is not for that. The purpose of the experimental Fuchsia is to work with different form factors, smart home gadgets, wearable electronics and, possibly, augmented and virtual reality devices. At the moment, Android works well on smartphones, and [Android] apps work on Chrome OS devices as well. And Fuchsia can be optimized for other form factors,” he said. That is, so far this is an experiment, and not a replacement for existing systems. However, it is possible that in the future the company will try to expand the Fuchsia ecosystem.

Later, Lockheimer clarified something else on the topic. He noted that Fuchsia, in fact, is being developed for IoT devices that require a new OS that can flexibly adapt to tasks. Therefore, now we can say with confidence that Fuchsia is being created specifically for this area. Probably, in this way the company wants to squeeze out of the Linux market, on which, to one degree or another, almost all embedded, network and other equipment works.
