id Software worked overtime to make Doom Eternal a quality shooter

According to executive producer Marty Stratton, postponing the release of Doom Eternal to a later date has had a positive effect on the game. Speaking to VG247, he explained that id Software was working overtime, which allowed the team to improve the quality of the project.

“I'm saying it's the best game we've ever made. I don't think I would have said that if we didn't have this extra time," Stretton said. “The game was over, we didn’t add anything, but [the move] allowed us to fix a lot of bugs. He allowed us to thoroughly polish the game, fine-tune the internal systems, and we test everywhere we attract people from outside. We made a couple of additional versions and additions to the game, which adjusted the balance and fixed a couple of holes.

Reworks have been one of the main topics of discussion in the gaming industry over the past few years. Many criticize companies that force their employees to work overtime. Stretton says id Software management is trying to encourage developers to spend extra time on projects.

“For most of last year, we had a pretty hard time with overtime,” Stretton explained. — […] We really try to be very respectful of people's time and lives. We have very dedicated people who in many cases choose to work hard themselves. It was nice because we want the game to be perfect. We want it to meet our and consumer expectations.”

Doom Eternal will release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 20, 2020. A release on the Nintendo Switch is also planned. “We're not talking about a launch date for [Doom Eternal on Switch], so I can't provide one. But she's not that far behind,” Stretton said. “We are working hard on it. Panic Button is hard at work on it. I don't think people will be too disappointed."
