The intensity of mobile banking Trojan attacks has increased sharply

Kaspersky Lab has announced report with the results of a study devoted to the analysis of the cybersecurity situation in the mobile sector in the first quarter of 2019.

The intensity of mobile banking Trojan attacks has increased sharply

It is reported that in January–March the intensity of attacks by banking Trojans and ransomware on mobile devices increased sharply. This suggests that attackers are increasingly trying to take over the money of smartphone owners.

In particular, it is noted that the number of mobile banking Trojans increased by 58% compared to the first quarter of last year. Most often, in the first three months of this year, mobile device users encountered three banking Trojans: Svpeng (20% of all detected malware of this type), Asacub (18%) and Agent (15%). It is important to note that Russia was in third place on the list of the most attacked countries (after Australia and Turkey).

The intensity of mobile banking Trojan attacks has increased sharply

As for mobile ransomware, their number has tripled in a year. The leaders in the number of users attacked by such programs were the United States (1,54%), Kazakhstan (0,36%) and Iran (0,28%).

β€œThis significant increase in mobile financial threats is certainly alarming. At the same time, attackers are not just increasing the volume of their activity, but are increasingly improving their methods of spreading malware. For example, they have increasingly begun to β€œpackage” banking Trojans into special dropper programs that allow them to bypass a number of security mechanisms,” notes Kaspersky Lab.
