Why participate

Firstly, the winners of "I am a professional" have significant benefits for admission to master's and postgraduate studies, and in some universities participating in the project, winning will help them to enter without exams. Secondly, this is an opportunity to do an internship in the largest companies in the country and receive offers of cooperation as they graduate from the university (the winners get into the “I am a professional” database, which is studied in many Russian companies).

First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergei Kiriyenko сказал at the awards ceremony for YaP winners: “I see here the directors of the largest Russian companies, market leaders, each of whom walks around with notes, writes out winners for himself. In general, they start fighting for you. And that's great, that's very important."

Finally, the winners receive not only diplomas and medals. The best of the best - gold medalists - get good money: 200 thousand rubles - undergraduate students, 300 thousand - students of the specialty and master's programs. On the other hand, the main goal of the project is to test the professional training of participants and acquaint them with the requirements of employers.

History in brief

About the start of the project organizers of the Olympiad announced the October 9, 2017 at the TASS press center. It was assumed that students from at least 250 universities in the country would compete for victory. Participants were given assignments in 27 areas from business informatics to journalism. They were prepared not only by university employees, but also by potential employers - experts from 61 companies.

“The diploma should be a kind of “guarantee letter” for the employer, but this is not always the case,” explained RSPP President Alexander Shokhin interest in the project of the companies participating in the program. - Up to 50% of company executives speak of a lack or insufficient professional training. This is a limiter for business development.”

According to Alexander Rudik, head of the committee on vocational education and training of Business Russia, the Olympiad will identify specialists with key business skills: the ability to think critically and work in a situation of uncertainty. HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov then said: “It is so difficult to find really strong professionals who stand out from the mass of those who just received a diploma.”

Registration opened in November 2017. And in a week they collected about 10 thousand applications. Their total number was 295 thousand. These were students from 828 universities and their branches from 84 regions of the country. An online tour gathered 50 participants, but about 5 people got to the final in-person stage. They were the best of the best: almost half received diplomas and medals. 2030 students became diploma holders. 248 people received medals of the Olympiad.

An unexpected interest for the organizers was shown by students of medical universities. There were a lot of them, but in the end the participants were on top. In the first season, 79 people from the First Moscow State Medical University named after M.V. THEM. Sechenov. Only 153 HSE students and 94 students from Ural Federal University managed to beat them.

The organizers of the second season of the Olympiad increased the number of thematic areas from 27 to 54 and expectedthat about half a million students will apply for participation in the competition. But in the fall of 2018, more than 523 thousand people decided to test their knowledge. 73 thousand participants of the “I am a professional” Olympiad passed the online qualifying stage. The winners were announced this spring.

How to take part

Need to start with Registration. on the official site. This process will take no more than three minutes. The next step is participation in the qualifying stage, the link to the tasks will be sent by the organizers. The final stage is held internally. Knowledge will be assessed by university staff and experts from partner companies. An idea of the tasks can be obtained from the examples in the participant's personal account. But it makes no sense to look for the real tasks of past seasons. They don't repeat.

You also need to be prepared for surprises. One of the participants I toldthat in the full-time round, to his surprise, there were no theoretical tasks, only practice. But this does not mean that this approach will be for all thematic areas. For example, participants in the "Arctic Technologies" direction have already promisedthat will work with real scientific data.

Get an idea about the subject and level of the Olympiad will help Webinars. And those who successfully pass online courses will be able to get to the final, bypassing the qualifying stage. But since the number of directions increases every year, courses are not available in all of them.

The winners of the qualifying stage will be able to listen to lectures at winter schools, training is free. The mere fact of studying in them does not give advantages at the full-time stage. However, they are useful: they are conducted by experts from partner companies of the Olympiad. For example, the winter school “Finances that change the world. Reboot" for last year's finalists organized specialists from NRU HSE and VTB.

What's going on today

Register participants of the third season of "I am a professional" will last until November 18, 2019. The competitions of the qualifying stage will be held from November 22 to December 8. In late January - early February, 18 winter schools will open, and the final full-time stage is scheduled after: at the end of January - beginning of March 2020. It will be more difficult to win this time - there are more competitors: in the first day alone, 27 thousand applications were received, now there are already more than 275 thousand of them.
