Maps and services from TomTom will appear in Huawei smartphones

It became known that the navigation and digital mapping company TomTom from the Netherlands has entered into a partnership agreement with the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies. As part of the agreements reached, maps, services and services from TomTom will appear in Huawei smartphones.

Maps and services from TomTom will appear in Huawei smartphones

The Chinese company was forced to accelerate the development of its own operating system for mobile devices after the US government blacklisted Huawei in the middle of last year, accusing the manufacturer of spying for China. Because of this, Huawei lost the opportunity to cooperate with most companies of American origin, including Google, whose Android operating system was used in the manufacturer's mobile devices. The imposed sanctions prohibit Huawei from using Google's proprietary services and applications, forcing them to look for alternatives. Ultimately, Huawei created the operating system, and is currently working to build a full-fledged ecosystem around it, involving a large number of mobile application developers around the world.

The agreement with TomTom means that in the future, Huawei will be able to use the Dutch company's maps, traffic information and navigation software to develop applications for its smartphones.

A representative from TomTom confirmed that the deal with Huawei was closed some time ago. More detailed information regarding the terms of cooperation between TomTom and Huawei was not disclosed. It is worth noting that the company has shifted the vector of its development, moving from the sale of devices to the development of software products and the provision of services. TomTom sold its telematics division last year to focus on developing its digital map business.
