Book publishers complain about piracy in Telegram

Russian book publishers suffer losses of 55 billion rubles a year due to piracy, сообщают "Vedomosti". The total volume of the book market is 92 billion. At the same time, the Telegram messenger, blocked (but not banned) in Russia, is called the main culprit.

Book publishers complain about piracy in Telegram

According to Maxim Ryabyko, General Director of AZAPI (Association for the Protection of Rights on the Internet), about 200 channels distribute books from various publishers, including those purchased in electronic form.

The head of AZAPI noted that 2 million people use pirate channels, and Telegram itself is one of the largest sources of piracy in Runet. So far, Pavel Durov has not commented on this information.

It should also be noted that earlier Avito, Yula and VKontakte had already blamed distribution of pirated content. Similar claims sounded and to Telegram last year. Moreover, then it was said about 170 channels, and the copyright holders threatened to turn to the American authorities. As you can see, the result of "tightening the screws" did not lead to anything.
