Mobile terminal in access control systems

The development of mobile technologies has led to the fact that in access control systems a smartphone with an NFC module is increasingly used not only as an identifier, but also as a registering device.

Application area

This solution is suitable for facilities where it is impossible or unprofitable to install a stationary check-in terminal, but access control and employee accounting are needed. These can be mines, oil rigs, construction sites, service buses and other remote sites, including those without an Internet connection.

Principle of operation

Among Russian manufacturers, such a solution as a mobile access terminal has already been presented by leading ACS manufacturers: PERCo, Sigur, Parsec. Let's analyze the principle of operation of a mobile terminal using the example of a solution from PERCo.

A smartphone with an NFC module and an installed mobile application is used as a mobile terminal. The application allows you to register the passage of employees and visitors using access cards in the MIFARE format.

The mobile terminal must be included in the configuration of the PERCo-Web access control and time attendance system.

To work with the application, you need to enter the IP address of the PERCo-Web server or scan the QR code.

Data transfer to the server can be carried out via a Wi-Fi network or via a mobile network. If the terminal is offline, all access events are stored in application memory and sent to the server when communication is available.

After connecting the terminal to the configuration, you can register the passages of employees and visitors, which will be displayed in system events.

Registration can be carried out in several modes:

  • "Entrance" - when the card is presented, the entrance is registered
  • "Exit" - when the card is presented, an exit is registered
  • "Verification" - it is necessary to confirm the permission of the passage by the operator using the buttons Enter / Exit

When you present the ID, the name and photo of the employee are displayed on the terminal screen. The screen also displays information about whether access is allowed for this identifier during the current time period.

A mobile access terminal allows you to organize employee time tracking. Based on data on registered inputs/outputs, the system calculates working hours for the month and generates a timesheet. Shift, weekly and rotating work schedules are supported.

The terminal is also useful in case of an emergency, for example, a fire. The ability to track the location of people in an emergency significantly increases the likelihood of rescue.
