Mozilla ends support for search add-ons based on OpenSearch technology

Mozilla Developers announced the about the decision to remove from add-ons catalog to Firefox all add-ons for integration with search engines using technology Opensearch. It is also reported that support for OpenSearch XML markup will be removed in the future from Firefox, which allowed sites to determine scripts for integrating search engines into the browser search bar.

OpenSearch-based add-ons will be removed on December 5th. Instead of OpenSearch, we recommend using the WebExtensions API to create search engine integration add-ons. In particular, to override settings related to search engines, you should use chrome_settings_overrides and a new search engine interface description syntax similar to OpenSearch, but defined in JSON rather than XML.
