Mozilla lays off 70 people and reorganizes

According to a tweet from one of the organization's employees (Chris Hartjes), Mozilla recently laid off 70 employees (out of a total of 1000 people), including all the main designers of Mozilla Quality Assurance, whose main tasks are testing new features and fixing bugs.

In response, the hashtag #MozillaLifeboat was launched on the Twitter platform by laid-off employees, allowing them to share details and for interested parties to suggest job openings.

Mozilla has previously Reported about the suspension of public events Testday and Bugday, which were part of Mozilla QA. And on January 15, 2020, the official Mozilla blog appeared article "Preparing for the Future at Mozilla," according to which the organization plans to focus on introducing new technologies:

Working to create new products that will enable us to influence the future of the Internet requires us to change our current approach, including dedicating funds for this purpose. We make a big contribution to maintaining innovation. In order to do things responsibly, we were forced to make some difficult decisions that led to the attrition of roles at Mozilla, which we announced to employees today.

Mozilla has a clear view of future revenue from our core business. In some ways this complicates matters and we are very concerned about the impact this has had on our colleagues. However, to responsibly expand investment in innovations that improve the Internet, we can and must navigate current financial constraints.

I will remind you main source of income Mozilla today - cooperation with search engines such as Google, Yandex, Baidu, etc., installed by default in the Mozilla Firefox browser. However, recently the organization has been seriously concerned about diversifying its revenues, which will limit its dependence on third-party companies and help mitigate the decline in revenues caused by the decline in Mozilla Firefox's share in the world.
