The US Department of the Interior has suspended the use of drones due to the risk of espionage from China.

The U.S. Department of the Interior, which manages most natural resources and lands under federal jurisdiction, said it was suspending operations of its drone fleet of more than 800 unmanned aerial vehicles due to fears of Chinese espionage and drone-based cyberattacks.

The Wall Street Journal resource reported that the drones in the US Department of Internal Affairs fleet were either manufactured in China or use some Chinese-made parts.

The decision to suspend the use of drones was announced on October 30 by Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. The ministry intends to analyze the risks posed by the use of Chinese-made drones, and only after that will a decision be made on the future fate of the existing fleet of drones.
