The KDE project developers have decided to rename the set of applications developed by the KDE project, as well as related libraries and plugins, to KDE Gear. The new name will apply starting with the 21.04 release scheduled for April 22. Prior to this, applications were shipped under the name KDE Applications, which replaced KDE Software Compilation in 2014, then unnamed as part of the KDE Release Service ("Release Service").
