Canonical and Lenovo announced the about expanding the pre-installation program Linux on ThinkPad and ThinkStation devices. 29 models of ThinkPad laptops and ThinkStation workstations will be available for purchase with pre-installed Ubuntu 20.04. Previously, the Lenovo company start delivery of Fadora on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 model and intended provide pre-installation of RHEL, and also joined the work on transferring drivers to the main kernel Linux to ensure first-class compatibility with any distributions Linux.

Distribution Ubuntu 20.04 is certified for 22 Lenovo ThinkPad and 7 ThinkStation models. These devices support the proprietary NVIDIA drivers included in the base package. Popular applications, including Visual Studio Code, Slack, Spotify, Plex, and JetBrains, are available through the Snap Store. The base package includes the latest developer tools (Ruby 2.7, Python 3.8, and GCC 9.3). A new design theme and support for dark and light interface modes are available. A redesigned configurator is available, simplifying setup of Wi-Fi, desktop wallpaper, and applications.
