Ubuntu 20.04 pre-installation on Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkStation devices has begun

Canonical and Lenovo announced the about extending the Linux pre-installation program to ThinkPad and ThinkStation devices. 29 ThinkPad laptops and ThinkStation workstations will be available for purchase with Ubuntu 20.04 preinstalled. Formerly Lenovo start delivery of Fadora on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 model and intended to provide pre-installation of RHEL, and also joined in the work to transfer drivers to the main part of the Linux kernel to ensure first-class compatibility with any Linux distributions.

Ubuntu 20.04 is certified for 22 Lenovo ThinkPads and 7 ThinkStation models. These devices are supported by proprietary NVIDIA drivers included in the basic package. The Snap Store provides access to popular apps including Visual Studio Code, Slack, Spotify, Plex, and JetBrains. The core package includes fresh developer tools (Ruby 2.7, Python 3.8 and GCC 9.3). A new theme and support for dark and light interface modes have been proposed. A redesigned configurator is available to make it easier to set up Wi-Fi, desktop wallpapers, and apps.
