Update for Proton 4.11-8, package for running Windows games on Linux

Valve Company ΠΎΠΏΡƒΠ±Π»ΠΈΠΊΠΎΠ²Π°Π»Π° new project release Proton 4.11-8, which is based on the developments of the Wine project and is aimed at enabling gaming applications created for Windows and presented in the Steam catalog to run on Linux. Project achievements extend under the BSD license.

Proton allows you to directly run Windows-only gaming applications on the Steam Linux client. The package includes an implementation of DirectX 9 (based on D9VK), DirectX 10/11 (based on DXVK extension) and DirectX 12 (based on vkd3d) that work by translating DirectX calls to the Vulkan API provides improved support for game controllers and the ability to use full screen mode regardless of screen resolutions supported in games.

Π’ new version:

  • The composition integrated package vkd3d, which provides a Direct3D 12 implementation that works via call translation to the Vulkan API;
  • Stopped shipping variants of Wine builds and other libraries with debug symbols enabled. For debugging purposes, a separate "debug" branch of Proton is proposed, available in the Steam client;
  • Updated build system. New build target added to makefile
    'redist', which makes it easy to redistribute Proton builds between users. Significantly accelerated the assembly process. The virtual machine image used for the build has been updated to Debian 10;

  • Work has been done to reduce disk space consumption by the Proton package and reduce the size of downloaded updates;
  • Improvements have been made to the operation of the Rockstar Launcher and Grand Theft Auto 5;
  • Improved support for game controllers in Farming Simulator 19 and Resident Evil 2;
  • Fixed mouse issues in Arma 3.
  • Provided the ability to run the game "DmC: Devil May Cry";
  • DXVK layer (implementation of DXGI, Direct3D 10 and Direct3D 11 on top of Vulkan API) updated to branch 1.4.4;
  • D9VK layer (Direct3D 9 implementation on top of Vulkan API) updated to experimental version 0.30;
  • FAudio components with implementation of DirectX sound libraries (API XAudio2, X3DAudio, XAPO and XACT3) updated to release 19.11;
  • The wine-mono components that allow you to run many XNA and Unreal Engine 3 games have been updated to version 4.9.4.
