Star Ocean: First Departure R is an updated version of the 2007 remake of the original Star Ocean for the PlayStation Portable. Star Ocean was released in 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game cartridge had its own processing units so that the system could handle the advanced graphics component of the project. The history and universe of Star Ocean was inspired by Star Trek and other science fiction. The plot of the game tells about a resident of the planet Roak Roddick Ferrense, who is looking for a way to defeat the disease that turns everyone to stone.
Star Ocean: First Departure R is being developed for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. More information about the game and a possible release date will be revealed at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2019, which will take place from September 12 to 15.
