Why has Spotify delayed its launch in Russia again?

Representatives of the streaming service Spotify are negotiating with Russian copyright holders, looking for employees and an office to work in Russia. However, the company is again in no hurry to release the service to the Russian market. And how do its potential employees feel about this now (there should be about 30 people at the time of launch)? Or the former head of the Russian sales office of Facebook, top manager of Media Instinct Group Ilya Alekseev, who should head the Russian division of Spotify?

Unfortunately, while these questions remain unanswered, but there is information about the possible reasons for another delay.

Why has Spotify delayed its launch in Russia again?

Sources of "Kommersant" believethat the launch of Spotify in our country has been postponed from the end of summer to the end of the calendar year due to disagreements with one of the largest labels - Warner Music. The conflict has been going on since February, when the company entered the Indian market and did not agree with the label on the terms of music licensing.

In Russia, Spotify planned to start with a premium subscription price of 150 rubles per month. The service published such data in July.

The volume of the Russian market of music streaming services in 2018 amounted to 5,7 billion rubles, and in 2021 it will grow to 18,6 billion rubles. Such figures are given by J'son & Partners Consulting experts. According to them, Apple Music occupies 28% of the market, Boom - 25,6%, and Yandex.Music - 25,4%. The Google Play Music service accounts for 4,9% of the market.

What share will Spotify take when it enters the Russian market? If it comes out at all: the service has been promising to do this for 5 years, but constantly delays the launch.

At the beginning of 2014 the company registered Spotify LLC planned to launch in Russia by autumn. But instead, Spotify postponed the launch: they did not come to a common denominator with a potential partner, MTS. This was the first delay, followed by a whole epic 5 years long, which will last at least until the end of 2019.
