Polish Insider Claims Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Due To Optimization Issues

Last week CD Projekt RED transferred Cyberpunk 2077 releases from April 16 to September 17, 2020. Speaking about the reasons for the delay, the developers referred to the need for additional testing and a large amount of work to fix bugs and “polish”, but, as is usually the case, they did not go into details. More specific reasons supposedly found out Polish insider Boris Neshpelyak (Borys Nieśpielak). He said that the main problem was the lack of power in the current generation of consoles.

According to an insider, the Xbox One is too weak for Cyberpunk 2077 to work on it without problems. In a podcast on the YouTube channel of well-known Polish video blogger Remigiusz Maciaszek, he called the game's performance on this console "extremely unsatisfactory." CD Projekt RED set a goal to deal with this issue before January - otherwise it was planned to postpone the release. It was in this scenario that events unfolded.

Xbox One optimization issues are not new to CD Projekt RED. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt performed on the base console at a resolution of 1600 × 900 pixels (up to native 1920 × 1080 pixels, it increased only in videos on the engine), and the frame rate often dropped to 20 fps. In addition, for this version, the quality of textures, shadows and vegetation had to be significantly reduced.

According to the source, work on the main story was completed about three months ago. Some secondary quests are still being finalized. Neshpelyak noted that the second and third passages of Cyberpunk 2077 will be more interesting than in the case of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The insider also said that he was “one hundred percent” sure that once CD Projekt RED planned to create a new part of The Witcher with Ciri in the title role. The possibility of releasing it as a Sony exclusive was discussed, but at some point the project faded into the background and no information about it appeared.

In Poland, Neszpielak is trusted: he has the same reputation in the country as Kotaku editor Jason Schreier in the eyes of Western audiences. In addition, what he said is confirmed by recent posts by a ResetEra forum user under the pseudonym boskee. At the end of last week he рассказалthat the reason for the delay lies in the fact that the team did not have time to fix serious technical problems in the appointed time. However, this news should be taken with a grain of salt.

The developers have repeatedly emphasized (and once again did so when they announced the transfer) that they are focused on versions for current consoles and are not going to refuse to release them. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X options not confirmed, but studio regards such an opportunity. The RPG will definitely not appear on new consoles immediately after their launch.

September 17 Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on all three platforms - PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. multiplayer component, probablywill not be released before 2022.
