The Windows 7 operating system went on sale on October 22, 2009 and quickly took the leading position in the number of users in the world. StatCounter statistics on the Windows desktop operating systems market shows, that at the moment the share of the β€œseven” is 26,8%. Despite the user audience shrinking every month, the OS continues to be widely in demand on the market.

The main reason for the continued popularity of the β€œseven” lies in the corporate segment, which is traditionally less willing to accept new software platforms, experts say. Especially for companies still using Windows 7 in their IT infrastructure, Microsoft will offer paid updates under the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.

The first year of ESU service will cost $25 per device. The cost of the second year will be 50 dollars, and the third – 100. Updates under the program will be provided until January 2023 inclusive. It's important to note that these prices are for organizations that own a Windows Enterprise license. For Windows Pro users, prices are even higherβ€”$50, $100, and $200 for the first, second, and third years of service, respectively. With this pricing policy, the software giant intends to encourage businesses to switch to Windows 10.
