The International Data Corporation (IDC) has calculated that 656,2 million different devices for the modern smart home were sold globally last year.

The data presented includes shipments of products such as set-top boxes, monitoring and security systems, smart lighting products, smart speakers, thermostats, etc.

This year, shipments of smart home devices are expected to rise by 26,9% compared to last year. As a result, the volume of the industry will reach 832,7 million units.

In the total amount of delivered products, TV set-top boxes and other gadgets for video entertainment this year will account for 43,0% in unit terms. Another 17,3% will be smart speakers. The share of monitoring and security systems will be 16,8%, smart lighting devices - 6,8%. Approximately 2,3% will fall on thermostats.

In the future, sales of smart home devices will continue to gain momentum. So, in the period from 2019 to 2023, the CAGR indicator (compound annual growth rate) will be at the level of 16,9%. As a result, in 2023, the volume of the global market for smart home products will amount to almost 1,6 billion devices.
