This is a selection of events that will be held with the support of ITMO University in the next few months. There will be festivals, seminars, competitions, “winter schools” and even stand-up comedy.

Yandex Scientific Prize named after Ilya Segalovich


When: October 15 - January 13
Where: Online Training: For those who prefer the flexibility of learning from a distance or cannot make it to our Sofia location, we offer comprehensive online courses.

Senior students, graduate students, as well as scientific supervisors who are involved in developments in the field of computer vision, machine learning, speech recognition and data analysis can apply for the award. The prize for young researchers will be 350 thousand rubles. They will also go to an international conference on AI systems and undergo an internship at Yandex.

Scientific supervisors will receive more - 700 thousand rubles.

The winners are selected by a special commission, which includes representatives of Yandex and professors from leading world universities. They will evaluate the quality of existing publications, presentations at conferences and the overall contribution of nominees to the development of the scientific community.

The names of the laureates will be announced next spring, and the application can be submitted until January 13.

Competition: best startup project "Gazprom Neft - ITMO University"


When: 8 November - 12 December

Starting this year, our students can defend their final works in the format of a business project. As part of this initiative, with the support of Gazprom Neft PJSC, we are holding a competition for the best startup. It will be held in the format of a kind of accelerator: participants will meet with mentors at the Faculty of Technology Management and Innovation. Together with specialists from Gazprom Neft and other industrial leaders, the teams will model various ways of developing the company: from launch to attracting investments.

At the end, students will present their projects at a demo day, where they will be evaluated by a jury. The commission will include experts from Gazprom Neft, employees of ITMO University and Foodtech specialists. Twenty teams will receive grants - one of them will walk away with the main prize. The amount of the reward depends on the level of project readiness and the availability of MVP. For a great idea, the team will receive 30 thousand rubles, for a prototype - 70 thousand. The prize for the best project is 100 thousand rubles.

ICPC World Championship Northern Eurasia Final


When: 29 November - 1 December

ICPC is world competitions on sports programming for students. At the beginning of October already have passed qualifiers for the “Northern Eurasia” region, the participants of which were hosted by ITMO University. Now the best representatives of universities will compete for the right to reach the ICPC final, which will be held in Moscow in 2020. You can watch the battles watch online.

NeuroFestival 2019 “Educational innovations with neurotechnologies”


When: 7 December
Where: Etc. Medikov, 3, Boiling Point - St. Petersburg

This is an opportunity to learn about global developments in the field of NeuroTech. The festival will include master classes in which representatives of Russian companies will demonstrate the operation of mobile brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and also talk about their applicability in sports and neurophysiology. The site will also host two mini-hackathons on mobile BCI. They will be of interest to participants of all ages: schoolchildren, students and adults.

Stand-up "How did we live without soft skills for 120 years?"

This is a speech by Associate Professor of the Chemical and Biological Cluster Mikhail Kurushkin, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of ITMO University. Today, a lot is said and written about the importance of soft-skills or “flexible skills”. They are also called “supra-subject competencies.” Mikhail will conduct a humorous analysis of the tricky term and talk about the difficulties of translating it. Master class "Dream Team"


When: February 5
Where: st. Lomonosova, 9, ITMO University

This is a master class from teachers of soft-skills disciplines from ITMO University. Over the course of three hours, they will tell you how to form an effective team, motivate employees and distribute roles. Participants will also have a practical part - a group mini-game about networking.

The event is open to everyone, but registration is required. A link to the form will appear closer to the master class date.

ITMO University Winter School "It's up to you!"


When: 10 - February 14
Where: st. Lomonosova, 9, ITMO University

Winter school for students studying in the following areas: big data, information security, programming and IT, robotics and photonics. Participants will work with mentors in the subject area, master classes on soft-skills, tours of the offices of technology companies and lectures from keynote speakers. Carousel of creative technologies for the digital world


When: February 26 - April 24
Where: st. Tchaikovsky, 11/2

The head of the Center for Personal Development of ITMO University, Anastasia Prichyschisko, and leading business trainers from T&D Technologies will conduct master classes on the basics of creative technologies. The course is built on five interconnected topics:

  • Guided creativity - about the principles of the brain;
  • Development of personal creativity - about types of thinking and confidence training;
  • Creative team - how to form it and how to work with it;
  • Practice team creativity - training heuristics and public presentation skills;
  • Changing attitudes - practices of weakening stereotypes and affirmation.
