Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8

Presented at Red Hat Summit 2019 a new version of the RHEL distribution based on Fedora 28. This release is the last in the line, created without the direct participation of the owner of Red Hat - IBM.

Among the distinctive innovations:

  • Wayland is now the default protocol for the GNOME desktop.
  • Application Streams is a system for delivering different versions of software (in the form of modules and rpm packages).
  • YUMv4 - a new version of the package manager is now based on DNF technologies and supports working with modular software.
  • Support for LUKS2 encryption by default Anaconda installer.
  • Cryptographic rules are applied by default. Support for TLS 1.2 and 1.3, IKEv2, SSH2 protocols is available.
  • nftables is now shipped by default instead of iptables.
  • Added firewall configuration page to Cockpit (web interface for server administration).
