Newsboat 2.17 console RSS reader release

Published new version newsboat, fork newsbeuter β€” a console RSS reader for UNIX-like operating systems, including Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and macOS. Unlike newsbeuter, newsboat is actively developing while newbeuter development has been halted. The project code is written in C++ using Rust libraries spreads under the MIT license.

Newsboat features include:

  • RSS 0.9x, 1.0, 2.0 and Atom support;
  • Ability to download podcasts;
  • Keyboard control with the ability to define your own key combinations;
  • Search across all uploaded feeds;
  • The ability to categorize your subscriptions using a flexible tagging system;
  • Ability to add an arbitrary data source using a flexible system of filters and plugins;
  • Ability to create meta-channels using a powerful query language;
  • Possibility to sync newsboat with bloglines.com account
  • Import and export of subscriptions in OPML format;
  • Ability to customize and redefine the colors of all interface elements;
  • Ability to synchronize feeds with Google Reader.

In the new version of newsboat:

  • Added tasks to build newsboat on CI servers for Linux and FreeBSD platforms;
  • Added documentation for "macro-prefix" option;
  • Added "save-all" feature to save all articles in the feed;
  • Added "dirbrowser-title-format" setting, used in the "save-all" dialog;
  • Ability to assign hotkeys in the context of the dialog generated by "save-all";
  • Added "selecttag-format" option to define how the "Select tag" dialog looks like;
  • The minimum version of rust required to build is now 1.26.0;
  • Italian localization update;
  • Fixes for various crashes or memory leaks.
