Release of the minimalist distribution kit Alpine Linux 3.10

Took place Release Alpine Linux 3.10, a minimalistic distribution built on the basis of the system library musl and a set of utilities BusyBox. The distribution is distinguished by increased security requirements and is built with SSP (Stack Smashing Protection) patches. OpenRC is used as an initialization system, and its own apk package manager is used for package management. Alpine applies to build official Docker container images. Boot iso images (x86_64, x86, armhf, aarch64, armv7, ppc64le, s390x) are prepared in five versions: standard (124 MB), unpatched kernel (116 MB), advanced (424 MB) and for virtual machines (36 MB).

In the new release:

  • Wi-Fi daemon included IWD, developed by Intel as an alternative to wpa_supplicant;
  • Added support for serial port and Ethernet for ARM boards;
  • Added packages with distributed storage and Ceph file system;
  • Added display manager LightDM;
