10 years after the publication of the 3.4 branch took place music player release Rhythmbox 3.5, developed by the GNOME project with an eye on iTunes. Rhythmbox supports tools for managing a music collection, provides automatic podcast downloads, allows listening to internet radio, and offers the ability to expand functionality through plugins, supports downloading albums from audio services, includes tools for synchronizing and copying music between devices that support the MTP protocol and USB drives. The project code is written in C and spreads under license GPLv2. For loading formed package in Flatpak format.
Among changes:
- by default involved a new "multistream" playback backend, which, unlike the old backend, has a simpler architecture and uses a separate instance for each audio stream, moving the stream mixing operations to the audio server side, without doing any mixing on its own;
- Added support for searching for song lyrics via the lrclib.net service, in lrc-format files and in metadata inside Ogg files;
- The notification system for new podcast episodes and downloads has been redesigned. The interface for navigating through podcast episodes has been redesigned, and a flag for previously listened podcasts has been added.
- A new plugin for managing podcast subscriptions has been introduced, supporting episode synchronization via the gPodder.net API.
