Samsung may start production of GPUs for discrete Intel graphics cards

This week, Raja Koduri, who oversees the production of GPUs at Intel, visited the Samsung plant in South Korea. Considering the recent ad Samsung about the start of production of 5nm chips using EUV, some analysts thought that this visit may not be accidental. Experts suggest that companies may enter into a contract under which Samsung will produce GPUs for future Xe discrete graphics cards.

Samsung may start production of GPUs for discrete Intel graphics cards

Considering the fact that Intel has been struggling with a shortage of chips for a long time, such rumors are quite expected. It is possible that Intel plans to provide additional production capacity by using Samsung factories. The imminent launch of sales of discrete Intel graphics cards may be complicated by a shortage of chips already at the start. It will be possible to avoid this by increasing our own production or by starting to interact with a contract GPU supplier capable of providing a sufficient number of components.

Experts believe that graphics processors for future Intel discrete graphics cards should be manufactured using a 10-nanometer or 7-nanometer process technology. Due to this, the company's products will be able to compete with AMD, which plans to start production of video cards with a 7nm GPU this year. Most likely, the next generation of NVIDIA graphics cards will also be based on GPUs made in accordance with the 7nm process technology.

At the moment, a possible collaboration between Intel and Samsung remains a rumor that may be confirmed or denied in the future.
