South Korean studio Shift Up (Stellar Blade) on April 1 announced about the acquisition of the Japanese company Unbound Games, founded by Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and The Evil Within. And this is no joke.

Unbound is currently working on an unannounced project using new intellectual property for PC and consoles, targeting a global audience. The studio's debut game will be published by Shift Up.
"Shift Up and Unbound are joining forces. <…> After talking with [Kim], we decided to work together towards the same goals. In other words, with Unbound, we're making not a game, but a masterpiece," Mikami assured.

“This acquisition marks an opportunity to deliver the best gaming experience to users worldwide and strengthen Shift Up’s global production capabilities,” Hyun-tae said.

The partnership announcement was accompanied by a four-minute roller, "partially enhanced by AI" - neural network-generated monsters roam the Unbound office, and the room itself is covered in creepy growths.
Mikami founded Unbound Games after leaving Tango Gameworks in 2023. The studio also employs around 50 people with experience working on Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Ghostwire: Tokyo и hifi rush.
