Huawei smartphones, tablets and TVs will come with Harmony OS

The Huawei Harmony OS operating system will be used in the future in smartphones, tablets and TVs of the Chinese company. Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said this during a conversation with reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Huawei smartphones, tablets and TVs will come with Harmony OS

After the American government banned US companies from working with Huawei, the Chinese manufacturer had to look for alternatives. Viable options for many areas have already been found, but replacing proprietary Google services and applications that can no longer be used by Huawei in new smartphones has proven difficult. Last year, Huawei released its own operating system, Harmony OS, but until recently it was unclear whether the manufacturer planned to use it in devices hitting consumer markets in different countries. Now it has become obvious that promoting Harmony OS and creating a full-fledged application ecosystem around it are priority areas of development.

Regarding Harmony OS, Huawei's head of software development, Wang Chenglu, recently said that the Android platform is still preferable for the Chinese company's smartphones. Despite this, Huawei will begin releasing smartphones with Harmony OS if necessary.

Currently, Harmony OS is at an accelerated development stage. According to forecasts from the analytical company Counterpoint, by the end of this year Harmony OS will surpass Linux in terms of prevalence, becoming the fifth most popular operating system for mobile devices.
