Chinese gaming giant Tencent, which also owns Riot Games and has stakes in Epic Games, Paradox Interactive, Supercell and Activision Blizzard, is looking to further expand its business outside of China.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, an unnamed Tencent representative said: β€œWe want to expand outside of China, and one of the targets is console players in the US and Europe. We hope to create console games with Nintendo characters and learn the essence of creating console games from Nintendo engineers."

Tencent and Nintendo announced a partnership earlier this year to release the Nintendo Switch in China. In August, it was announced that the Chinese company would help localize games for this market.

While Nintendo's mobile games, including the recent Mario Kart Tour, can be localized for the Chinese market, that is not Tencent's main goal. The latter already dominates the field, and "Nintendo's games are not designed to make people pay a lot of money," another Tencent executive told The Wall Street Journal.

The report also says that Nintendo is looking to expand its audience. The company will ask third-party developers to create games for young women in the romance and dating genres that are very popular in China.
