Electric vehicle and battery maker Tesla said Tuesday it will begin installing its Powerwall home batteries in Japan next spring.
The cost of a 13,5 kWh Powerwall battery capable of storing energy generated by solar panels will be 990 yen (about $000). The price includes the Backup Gateway system for network connection management. Battery installation costs and retail tax are the responsibility of customers.
Powerwall sales will be made by Tesla on its website or through third parties. Tesla has been taking orders online from Japanese customers since 2016 but has yet to announce when it will begin installing batteries, a company spokesperson said.
