What if we made an old-school horror game like Silent Hill and set the action to rural England in 1986? Apparently, the creators of Summerford from the Noisy Valley studio thought about this, who were inspired by the "golden age" of survival horror films and classics like the original Silent Hill, Resident Evil or Alone in the Dark.
This is a third-person adventure game that revolves around exploration, puzzle solving and survival planning. Players will take on the role of Sam, an urban explorer in her late 30s who has been cut off from her friends. Those who wish can appreciate the creepy trailer:
Developers
Noisy Valley Studios is a team of three who grew up in rural Kent. Summerford, however, is inspired by places like the Isle of Wight or the Cotswolds, along with other typical English outbacks.
“We are trying to create an English village that looks real. Although the town of Summerford has been quite pretty in the past, we will have something less like the classic model English villages that you can often see in the media, one of the developers noted. “So there are fewer World Heritage Sites and more fish and chip shops.”
“Now we don’t want to tell too much beyond the plot, but to some extent we are going against the trends and we are going to offer a more classic horror film, and not a deeply psychological project - something closer to Silent Hill 1 or Resident Evil than, for example, Silent Hill 2, although the game will be more open than the traditional storytelling of the 1990s,” he added.
According to the story of the game, in 1963 the small British village of Summerford was chosen as the location of the UK's first nuclear power facility and nuclear power laboratory. In 1986, a reactor failure occurred at the site, resulting in a catastrophe, and radioactive fallout fell on Summerford and the surrounding countryside, forcing the government to evacuate thousands of people and create a permanent 10 km exclusion zone. None of the civilians could gain access to the exclusion zone for 37 years.
